From The Fool to The World — a comprehensive guide to every Major Arcana card, its symbolism, and what it means when it appears in your reading.
The 22 Major Arcana cards form the backbone of the tarot deck. They represent archetypal experiences that every human faces — the great themes of existence. When a Major Arcana card appears in a reading, pay extra attention. It points to something significant.
The Fool's Journey
The Major Arcana tells a story. The Fool (card 0) begins a journey and encounters each archetype along the way — mentors, challenges, transformations — until reaching The World (card 21), representing completion and wholeness. This narrative structure, sometimes called "The Fool's Journey," mirrors the hero's journey found in myths worldwide.
Cards 0-7: The Conscious World
0 — The Fool. New beginnings, innocence, spontaneity, a leap of faith. The Fool steps off the cliff with trust. This card appears when you are about to begin something new. Embrace the unknown.
I — The Magician. Manifestation, skill, will, resourcefulness. You have everything you need. This card says: use your tools. Focus your intention.
II — The High Priestess. Intuition, mystery, the subconscious mind. Something is hidden. Trust your inner knowing over external information. Be still and listen.
III — The Empress. Abundance, nurturing, creativity, nature. Fertility in all forms — creative, physical, emotional. The Empress invites you to receive and create.

VII — The Chariot. Determination, willpower, victory through focus. Opposing forces are harnessed toward a single goal. The Chariot wins through directed effort, not brute force.
Cards 8-14: The Subconscious World

Cards 15-21: The Superconscious World
XV — The Devil. Bondage, shadow self, attachment, illusion. The chains are loose — you could leave at any time. What are you choosing to stay bound to?
